  • The fact that prolific penman and social critic Charles Dickens' 200th birthday has been celebrated with TV adaptations, round-the-clock, round-the-world readings of his work and two new biographies, confirms that his corpus has well-outlived his corpse. Let's honor the man by finding out how much we honor the man.

  • The Question

Does Dickens have a place in your pantheon?

    • A

God bless him. A literary rock star before that phrase made sense, his characters live on. Ebenezer Scrooge, Oliver Twist, Little Nell, David Copperfield -- hell, I work with some of these people. Want to be a Great Writer? This is how it's done.

    • B

Er, a modest one. Back in my school days they forced me to crack a tome, but I've never hoisted one of my own volition. No disrespect intended, but please sir, don't make me read some more.

    • C

Re-formatted. I like my Dickens vivid; with music on stage, with Muppets on the screen, in black and white -- any way but propped up in my lap. Too bad he didn't live to see the web. This pioneer of serialization would have cranked out a hella blog.
